Trash Pickup & Recycling
Announcement
Memorial Day Trash Pick-up Schedule
There will be no residential trash and recycle pick- up on Monday May 26th in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. If your residential service is Monday, please have cans curbside on Tuesday by 7 a.m. Remaining routes on normal pick-up day. We will do our best to have all routes serviced by Friday. If your service day is Friday and it is not serviced, please leave cans out for a Saturday pickup. Commercial services will run as scheduled.
The City of Prescott provides weekly curbside refuse collection and recycling. In addition, we offer several other programs to help reduce the waste stream:
- Spring Cleanup to help you with disposal of oversize items and yard waste
- Christmas tree collection to pick up Christmas trees and recycle them as mulch
- Drop off of appliances and used residential motor oil.
Residential Service
The City provides residential customers with a 68-gallon container that has a serial number, which is assigned to the property owner’s water meter. If you move, the container stays at the residence. If one container does not meet your needs, additional containers are available for a fee and must be kept for a minimum of three months. Containers are picked up once per week and must be placed at the curbside or alley on collection day by 7:00 a.m., and removed by the end of the day. The container must be placed a minimum of three feet from any obstruction such as a mailbox, fence or lamppost and a minimum of 15 feet from parked vehicles. All waste must be bagged and the lid of the container must be closed. This prevents the breeding of flies, reduces the risk of damage to the container, and helps to reduce litter in our neighborhoods. All waste to be collected must be placed in the container - the driver will not exit the truck to load excess material.
The following items may not be placed in the containers:
- Large quantities of dirt, rock, sod or concrete
- Large appliances or furniture
- Hot ashes or hazardous materials (liquid paints, petroleum products, etc.)
- Construction debris; tires
- Any large items which prohibit the container lid from closing
If you have any questions regarding residential or commercial service, please call the Transfer Station at 928-777-1116 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Recycling
The City of Prescott provides blue recycling containers for each household with a green garbage container. We offer two sizes for recycling-32 gallons and 68 gallons. All recyclable material must be placed in the container. These materials will be collected once a week on the same day regular trash collection is scheduled. For easier identification and collection, place the container at the regular collection point with a minimum of 3 feet between the trash container and the recycle container. Please wait until your recycle container is nearly full before placing it out for collection. In order to reduce the amount of material blowing around, please place all recyclables in a garbage bag before placing them in the containers. The items do not have to be separated, only bagged. If you have questions or comments regarding recycling, feel free to contact us at 928-777-1116.
