Acker Park consists of approximately 80 acres of natural parkland near downtown Prescott with access from 421 S. Virginia St., Penn St./Eastwood, Autumn Breeze (in the Foothills subdivision) and S. Washington. The latter has limited parking and is best suited for walk-ins.

The main 1-mile loop trail includes interpretive plant signs with nature quotes and children's art rotated in through out the year. There are 10 backless benches and 2 park benches that can be found along this trail to rest along the way or take in the scenic vista view that the trail offers. The trail is excellent for hiking or running. The north end hill top has rustic signage calling out distant mountain ranges and their elevations.

There is one main picnic area with 5 tables accessed from the Virginia St. entrance and one picnic table tucked into shade trees about halfway along the main trail. The park also includes a restroom and a small play area with a springing and climbing structure located off the dirt further south of the main parking lot.

In addition to the Mountain Oak Charter School art project, you'll find adjacent to the restroom a nice 6-panel, mosaic art wall made by nearby Skyview School students.

There is an amphitheater/stage with bench seating for 50 people and up to 100 if chairs are brought in. This is available free of charge to the public. Use is based on a first come first serve system. No registration/permit is required for the amphitheatre.

In 1996, Friends of J.S. Acker Park adopted Acker Park and have been instrumental in partnering with The City of Prescott to provide funds, do improvements and maintenance.

This park was made possible by a voter-approved referendum.
