Council approves new budget

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The Prescott city council has approved by a 6-1 vote a $160.1 million spending cap for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins on July 1.

"Sales tax revenue is up and spending is down," says councilman Charlie Arnold. "We're headed in the right direction going into this fiscal year. However, it's important that we continue to plan for the long term future operation of the city."

On July 10, council will take under consideration a modest increase in the secondary property tax which goes to pay off the city's 1998 purchase of Willow and Watson lakes. The increase is necessary to make up for a decrease in property valuations over the past year.

There is no scheduled council workshop for Tuesday, July 3. Past city council meetings can be screened by visiting Access Channel 13 website Videos on Demand. Recent meetings are also replayed throughout the week on Channel 13's television broadcast. Official agendas for all city council meetings can be downloaded from the City of Prescott website.
