Last Saturday's 2nd annual Pumpkin Patch Festival at the Courthouse Plaza drew a record breaking crowd of over six thousand, not including the four-legged variety.
"We originally conceived the Pumpkin Patch Festival to fill the void left by the Young's Farm event when they closed," said event manager, Becky Garvin. "The turnout has exceeded our expectations."
In late September, Garvin promoted DogToberfest, a celebration of our canine companions and an adoption awareness event which drew a similar crowd. "Pumpkin Patch was geared towards providing low cost fun for young children, but we had almost as many people bring dogs dressed in Halloween costumes, as people."
Garvin felt that dogs were ever-present at Plaza events and created the Doggie Halloween costume contest. She also added a pumpkin carving station to the line-up with grown-up consultants offering guidance and power tools to help youngsters with their creative carving.
According to Garvin, the next City sponsored event on the Courthouse Plaza is "Dickens of a Holiday" slated for December 12th.
