City Council Stands Down on Incorporation Resolution

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

City council considered adoption of Resolution No. 3994-1024 at Tuesday's meeting—a resolution approving the incorporation of the Town of Williamson Valley.

By a 6-1 vote, they opted to take no stand on whether the proposed town should form its own municipality.

Arizona state law allows Williamson Valley incorporation advocates to forward without the City of Prescott's support by first applying to the City for annexation.

If the city does not approve the annexation after 120 days, the "pro" incorporation residents can proceed with their efforts if they obtain signatures from 20 percent of their residents.
By comparison, 10 percent of resident signatures is sufficient when neighboring communities support annexation.
