Prescott PD: "Fingerprint" Your Vehicle
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
From a Prescott Police Department Press Release:
(October 20, 2009) The Prescott Police Department, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office, Prescott Valley Police Department, and Arizona Auto Theft Authority will have a VIN etching event to help prevent auto theft from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24th, at the Checker Auto store, 342 N. Grove Avenue, Prescott.
VIN etching is a process of permanently etching the vehicle identification number on each window of the vehicle and serves as a permanent fingerprint of your vehicle. VIN etching is a visual deterrent against auto theft and takes 5-7 minutes per vehicle. The vehicle owner needs to show proof of registration and will be required to complete a consent form. You will also receive a free steering wheel lock while supplies last.
In just a few minutes, we can etch your windows and register drivers for the Watch Your Car program. This program provides a decal, which allows police officers across the country to pull your vehicle over between 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. when an auto thief is most likely driving it.
If you have questions about this event, contact the Prescott Police Department's Crime Prevention Section at 928.777.1967.
