National Novel Writing Month Kickoff Party at the Library

Thursday, October 15, 2009

Kick off National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) Tuesday, October 27 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Founders Suite at Prescott Public Library, 215 East Goodwin Street. Join the Prescott Word Mongers and more than 150,000 writers from over 90 countries in their November writing marathon. Learn more at this Kickoff Party. Who are these marathon writers? How can you get started? Play Writer Bingo, develop Plot Bunnies and meet your Muse as you mingle with other aspiring and published writers over light refreshments.

Library Director Toni Kaus says, "The object is to get 50,000 words on paper during November, even if no one ever looks at them again. NaNoWriMo challenges you to write in quantity instead of constantly editing and rethinking your creative output." As the largest writing contest in the world, NaNoWriMo stresses fun and creative exploration over publication. Nonetheless, more than 30 NaNoWriMo novelists have had novels published, including Sarah Gruen, whose New York Times #1 Best Seller, Water for Elephants began as a NaNoWriMo novel.

Sunday, November 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. participants will have the opportunity to Hit the Keyboards. Bring your laptop, legal pad, pencils or whatever you need to write comfortably. If you think it is time to get started on your novel, we'll have your table ready. Can you meet the challenge?
