Mayor Jack D. Wilson was elected to a two-year term in November 2007. Jack moved to Prescott from Chicago in December 2000, after a 37-year career in Information Technology, the last thirty with Amoco Corporation primarily in supervisory and managerial positions. In Chicago, he lived in an 1889 Queen Ann Victorian individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He and his wife Liz spend 18 years restoring that historic home. Jack was the founder of two historic societies in the Old Irving Park area of Chicago. He brought his passion for history with him to Prescott and was instrumental in bringing "Bill" the Elk back atop the Elks Opera House. Jack is also a passionate antique collector and a published antique book author.

In 2005 Jack was one of the eight members of the Citizens for Reasonable Growth Steering Committee that successfully passed Proposition 400, the Reasonable Growth Initiative. He has also been active in the Citizens Water Advocacy Group (CWAG) and the Verde River Basin Partnership (VRBP).

During his campaign, Jack stressed several issues:

  • Regional cooperation
  • Regional Smart Growth planning
  • Regional sustainable water supply planning
  • A new model for economic development focused on the attraction of sustainable jobs
  • Citizen involvement in the government process coupled with government transparency
  • Championing open space acquisition
  • The need to do more to address the Affordable Housing dilemma

Jack favors a collaborative style and intends to emphasize that during his administration. He wants to encourage more citizen involvement in the government process as he feels one of the greatest assets of Prescott is our wealth of intellectual resources – we have many extremely talented people that we should try to engage to determine how Prescott will grow and prosper in the future.

Jack has two grown children. He and his wife Liz enjoy occasional travel, antiquing and good food.
