Support the Centennial
There are several ways for community members to support the Centennial besides mounting projects and enjoying activities. Check these out and see how you might like to participate.
To volunteer to get involved in Centennial planning or to learn more, e-mail your interests to us.
Join a Centennial Volunteer Group
Community members are encouraged to join in the fun by lending their time to support and promote centennial activities as group volunteers.
Standing (on-going) Groups you might be interested in joining are:
- Community Outreach - to spread the word about the Centennial throughout the community and encourage participation.
- Legacy Projects/Special Events - to assist the City in carrying out at least one major State-approved Legacy Project and/or to provide support for any State-sanctioned Special Event(s) aimed at bringing wide attention to the community.
- Local Projects - to assist groups and organizations City-wide to plan, organize, schedule, and carry out projects aimed at promoting their organizations while engaging community members and visitors to enjoy continuous Centennial activities.
- Media/Promotions - to provide time and expertise to promote Centennial activities throughout the community through as many public channels, including offering private avenues for disseminating information such as newsletters, web sites, media channels, advertising venues, and the like.
Ad hoc Groups (shorter term focus on specific projects) which could use your expertise and interests are (to date):
- State Centennial Stamp Group - to collaborate with the County Centennial Committee to get school classes involved in designing envelope cachets, learning about the Centennial stamp, obtaining first-day-cancellations, and the like.
- Prescott Public Library "Viewerie" Project - to design and implement a large display in the Prescott Library for February 2011 to educate and inform the public about the Centennial celebration in the year to follow.
- Other ad hoc groups will be forming such as those to plan :
- Kick-off celebrations for February 2011 involving the Elks Theater and other venues (perhaps performances, dinners, galas, parties?)
- Culminating events for Statehood Day, February 14, 2012 (maybe a parade, street dances, other festivities?)
- Merchandising of Centennial branded items to generate income for Centennial celebration expenses
- Other ideas?
Also help may be needed to carry out a major event, should the USPS comply, i.e. having the Centennial Stamp design unveiled in Prescott, under the direction of the USPS, with the cooperation of AHAC, and including many state and local dignitaries.

A tax deductible contribution to the City Committee to help defray expenses for support and promotion of Centennial activities would be welcome. State monies are very limited for selected State-supported projects and are not available for local activities.
